What goes down

Metallic epoxy

Metallic epoxy suspends reflective pigment in clear resin, which is then moved across the floor so the pigment separates and pools. The result reads like poured stone or liquid metal and is different every time. It is a feature finish — chosen when the floor is meant to be looked at, not walked over.

Where it fits

—Showrooms and customer-facing retail

—Finished basements and living space

—Collector and enthusiast garages

—Any room where the floor is the design decision

Where it does not

—Forklift aisles and service bays — it shows every scuff

—Anyone who needs to know exactly what it will look like first

—Floors needing a repeatable match across phases or rooms

—High-traffic commercial where appearance must hold for a decade

Cost of ownership

What it costs to own, not what it costs to install

The highest install cost of the coating systems and the one most sensitive to traffic. In a low-traffic feature space it holds for years. In a working shop it will look tired fast. Buy it for rooms people stand in, not rooms they drive through.

Questions

What people ask about metallic epoxy

Can you see exactly what a metallic epoxy floor will look like before it is poured?

No, and anyone who promises otherwise is overselling. The pigment movement is created during the pour and is never twice the same. A sample board shows the colour family and the character of the movement, but the finished floor is its own thing. That is the appeal and the risk.

Is metallic epoxy durable enough for a garage?

For a garage that holds cars and gets walked through, yes. For a working shop with jacks, dropped tools and rolling toolboxes, it will show damage a flake floor would hide. The chemistry is the same; the difference is that a metallic finish announces every mark.

How much more does metallic epoxy cost than flake?

Meaningfully more, because the pour is slower, the material costs more, and the installation is closer to finish work than coating work. The gap widens on small floors where labour dominates. Exact pricing is per square foot and confirmed after the slab is seen.
